We are thrilled to announce the winners and finalists of the swamp pink Prizes for Indigenous Writers in Fiction, Nonfiction, & Poetry. The winners will each receive $500 and their work will appear in swamp pink no. 9 this February.

David Heska Wanbli Weiden selected Danielle Emerson’s “The Grief of Christmas & Ymir” as the Fiction winner for swamp pinks Indigenous Writers Prize.

Stacie Denetsosie’s “Silver Teeth” and Amber Blaeser-Wardzala’s “Disinheritance” were chosen as fiction prize finalists.

Tacey M. Atsitty selected Javier Sandoval’s Bible Lessons” as the Poetry winner for swamp pinks Indigenous Writers Prize.

Portlyn Houghton-Harjo’s “after ‘Illuminiations’ by Buffy Sainte-Marie” and Aimee Inglis’s “Site Visit to Missouri Homelands” were chosen as the poetry prize finalists.

Toni Jensen selected Portlyn Houghton-Harjo’s “It Isn’t All Cowboys and Indians” as the Nonfiction winner for swamp pinks Indigenous Writers Prize.

Damon McKinney’s “I Can’t Forgive a Dead Man” and Casandra Lopez’s “Erasure: Masks” were chosen as nonfiction prize finalists.
